Highlands of Santa Cruz

May 3, 2010

Today we went up to the highlands of Santa Cruz and hiked through natural Giant Tortoise habitat. We saw 2 tortoises but there were foot tracks in the mud on the trail and also going into the scrub in numerous places so there were many tortoises around.

We then hiked through a giant lava tube which went for almost a kilometre. Fascinating!!

The day was topped off by a visit to huge volcanic twin sink holes.

We then provisioned for the 3000 nautical miles to the Marques at the local fruit and vegetable market.

After stowing we spent a last evening in Puerto Ayora enjoying the ambience and had a lovely meal at the local Italian restaurant.
